Etherial Tails on Ephemeral Donkeys
Tycho at Penny-Arcade has a some great turns of phrase in yesterday’s posting about the consoles, and he generally shows an evenhandedness that makes him seem sane in the searing-hot blogosphere. He mentions that blog posts about PS3′s stacked to the ceiling by nobodies and conspiracy theories about Microsoft don’t change the fact that it’s really very early in the PS3′s and Wii’s lifespans to see how they’re going to pan out. Here are a some of the great snippets I liked most:
On the PS3′s shiny finish: “the hulking Sony dust magnet”
On Microsoft: “They don’t have a genuine stable of brands, and I don’t know that they have the patience to build them.”
On the Wii: “[U]ntil Nintendo is able to conquer their novelty sugar rush – “It feels like I’m really sweeping!!!” – and deliver content that truly endures, I’d call the prognosis murky.”
And about the whole internet hype space: “Nobody knows [expletive deleted]. We’re pinning ethereal tails on ephemeral donkeys.”
