Analyst: PS3 Sales Saggy By 25%
Much like Old Man Ah-nuld to the left, Sony’s age in the video game industry has begun to show. Their repeated inflation of the PS3 sales expectations has made the actual sales numbers look….well….saggy. Leave it to an analyst prediction to magify the liverspots on Sony’s already battered body.
Nomura Securities (of Japan) states that Sony will only reach 75 percent of its 2007 fiscal year sales target for PlayStation 3 consoles. While Sony has predicted sales of 6 million consoles by March of 2007, Nomura believes that only 4.5 million consoles will arrive in homes around the world. They also state that by March of 2008, they don’t expect more than 10 million consoles sold.
This is possibly one of the few realistic preditions I’ve read from an analyst in quite a long time. The only way this is bad news is because of the lofty goals set by Sony in the first place. Although Sony doesn’t seem to realize it yet, I think the market is drastically different than it was in October of 2000.
