The Wright Stuff for ‘The Show’
Sony announced yesterday that David Wright, the 1st-half wonder of last year’s MLB season, is going to be the cover athlete for their 2007 iteration of MLB. Last year’s version of Sony’s MLB baseball was arguably the best version of baseball on the market, unseating 2K’s multi-year champion MLB title.
Last year’s cover was graced by David ‘Big Papi’ Ortiz, after his near-MVP type season the year before. While David Wright’s 2006 season paled in comparison to Big Papi’s 47 home run, 148 RBI showcase in 2005, he’s a pretty classy guy so it’s hard to argue Sony’s choice for a cover athlete. But Wright was no slouch, he batted .311 with 26 home runs and 116 RBI’s.
If only David Wright had passed on the mid-season Home Run Derby last year, maybe he wouldn’t have had such a weak second half of the season.
