Sony Joins Nintendo In Burning of Back Catalog
Sadly, all of the back catalog titles released so far for Nintendo’s Virtual Console are 100% offline. This is a massive loss of potential when compared to the Xbox Live Arcade’s full-featured retro titles. I was dearly hoping that Sony wouldn’t stoop to the levels Nintendo has set with their back catalog, those hopes have been officially squashed.
The first five US PSOne titles available for download from the PS3 are single player only. This includes any titles that originally shipped with multiplayer capability, Sony has not developed the titles to benefit from PSP’s WiFi capabilities. I guess I could somewhat understand not building online play into the games, but not building WiFi support into titles that can be shared across FIVE systems is pretty humorous.
So as-of yesterday, you can download Tekken 2 to your PSP for $5.99 and even share the game for free to 4 other registered PSP’s. Then you can all fire up the retro fighting goodness and watch each other play, because Sony didn’t even include offline multiplayer. Maybe you can buy four sets of f’ing pom poms and let your buddies cheer you on with them, it’s probably just as fun and a much more valid investment.
