Shadowrun Beta Begins, Impressions Inside
Go check your e-mail, invitations codes for the Shadowrun Xbox 360 Beta program have been rolling out since December 27th. I’ve been told that the initial beta invite numbers are very small, so if you haven’t received an invite yet, you might still be eligible. The invite-only code is included in the invitation e-mail and should something to the effect of,
"Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the Shadowrun beta program! The Beta build is now available for download on Marketplace…"
The beta download is 888.04MB in size and I’ve put some impressions inside.
My buddy drops some impressions on the beta. I won’t mention his name, for his protection;
"Ok got through chapters 1 – 3 in the "Start Here" option which is like career training, and I have to say I’m impressed. Reminds me a lot of Half Life 2: Deathmatch, some Halo and Oblivion style magic combined. Graphics aren’t stellar in the beta, but they do the job of creating a good clean fighting environment.
So far it lets you use a few different magics, and "Techs" which are gadgets in the single player portion of the beta. Things like "Strangle," which [let's] you cast an ice field that spawns wherever you point, slows down enemies movement and creates a barricade. "Gust" is a spell that sorta acts like force-push in a star wars game, another fun spell to use, though its easily countered by the ability to use "Glider" which is a "Tech," and is exactly what it sounds like.
Game so far is FPS objective or deathmatch-based, for those who dont know. Haven’t read much on the game, so not sure if there’s going to be more than that. Thought I saw someone say it’s suppose to be MMO, guess I was mistaken."
Half Life 2 Deathmatch with a dash of Halo and Oblivion? Wow, that’s a pretty impressive combination. I’ll still have to wait until I play it for myself before I can pass judgement. If you’ve gotten into the beta, send impressions to tips@aeropause.com.
