Shades of Halo: Gears Shoots Xbox Live Up 80%

While we might like to pass off news from the “Big Three” as the usual propoganda, when unrelated companies make comments regarding these systems, I usually take notice.
Sandvine Incorportated, who was previously quoted as saying Halo 2 signaled the start of a broadband gaming boom, cites that since the release of Gears of War, Xbox Live network usage is up 80%. While they only briefly discuss Gears of War in the article, you can be sure that the excellent Rainbow Six: Vegas contributed to the network usage as well.
“North American broadband networks observed an approximate 80% increase in the number of hosts using Xbox Live and an approximate 30% increase in Xbox Live traffic in the wake of Microsoft announcing over 20 new games and a first-of-its-kind media downloading service”
Sandvine also discusses a much larger influx of usage for iTunes since the release of version 7, but that’s for another blog. Full story at Sandvine’s Website.
