PSP Spot Test Drive, Gamestop Sucks
PSP owners might want to check out your local Gamestop of EBGames for the sticker shown on the left. If you see that on the window, there’s a PSP download station inside. I decided to take my local one for a ride.
br>When I first walked in, I waltzed over to the PSP Spot and flipped through the instructional booklet attached. The directions were pretty obvious; choose the “Game Share” option, then choose the demo you want to download. The station is really nothing more than an everyday PSP that game shares from a UMD it’s running. You activate the game sharing on your own PSP and then just choose the demo you’d like to send via the PSP Spot.
“It doesn’t work. Sony sucks.” I hear from behind me. I turn to see a half-awake Gamestop employee laying across the counter. “Sony hasn’t done anything good since the launch of the PS2.” I was with Sammael in the store, we let out a collective,
“Ohhh…kay.” and I continued. It wasn’t broken at all, it just wasn’t turned on. I fired up the PSP Spot, chose the demo to share and bingo, it sent the demo over.
“Seems to work fine for me,” I hollered over to the worthless loaf, “Guess Sony doesn’t suck that much after all.” I’m not one to defend Sony lately, but I don’t believe they should be punished due to an idiotic retail employee.
“Oh.” He responded, after a long pause. Sammael broke the tension with him a bit by talking about how bad the next gen Sonic games are, I think he felt a little sorry for the fool.
Anyway, the demos available at this spot were Lumines II, Every Extend Extra and Socom FTB2. The downloads do not save to your memory stick, they save to your memory and you can play them all you want until you either exit to the OS or turn off your PSP. I’d much rather have permanent downloadable demos for the PSP but that’s not a big deal, who really plays these demos more than a few times anyway.
Aside from the idiot at Gamestop, my PSP Spot experience was a good one. Hopefully the local store gets more demos soon, I really want to try Ghost n’ Goblins out.
