Despite telling us there would be 400,000 PS3 units in the US at launch, Sony had a measly 197,000 units available. That’s sad. Looking at the numbers at NexGen Wars, only 401,000 units have been sold worldwide since launch.

    You’re a lucky dog…….dog.
Too much $$$ for me yet. Not that I probably coulda pulled one off anyway.

197,000 and already demand is plummeting and ebay prices are crashing to just above retail. Doesn’t bode well for Sony.

“197,000 and already demand is plummeting and ebay prices are crashing to just above retail. Doesn’t bode well for Sony.”

While those may be the facts, the reality includes a bit of context. I’m no Sony apologist but truth be told, who is really “trying” to get one of these (demand) when they know the odds of them getting one is so slim? Sure demand is down, but with all the bad press of people getting scammed on ebay and people getting shot in line at stores, I think the demand has realistically been put on hold more than it has been killed.

Sure, this will pose a problem for sony because demand is not an easy thing to get surging like it does at launch but it’s not nearly as bad as some would have you believe.

Once the start shipping units, I see things picking up a bit. The question is how long will it take them to get the units in the pipeline. Every day that goes by makes it harder to translate latent demand into actual purchases.
