IGA suffering from crisis of imagination with Wii

bats.pngEither that, or he’s a horrible tease. Koji Igarashi has gone on record several times saying he can’t imagine making a Castlevania game for Wii, because people would get tired whipping the controller over and over. I take it this means he hasn’t actually looked at a Wii controller, because there are these things on there called buttons that one could perhaps press in order to make your weaponry do its horrible, holy work.

Fortunately for Igarashi-san, I have some suggestions, and I’m sure you do as well.

Take a look at New Super Mario Bros, Sonic Rush, Mega Man Powered Up, and Viewtiful Joe. These are great examples of how we take an old-style sidescroller concept and make it work on a modern system. Castlevania has only had moderate success in full 3D and it might be time to go back to 2D. Give us a side-scrolling Castlevania game with 3D characters, and let us control it like a Virtual Console NES game.

All he has to do is make a Castlevania game in this style and it would sell like crazy. Add motion controls for special attacks. Throw in a remake of the original Castlevania, Powered-Up style, and everyone will applaud.

What do you guys think? How could Iga make a compelling Castlevania title using the Wii controller?

Uggggh, I swear, Iga ticks me off. The man makes great stuff, but he needs to take a look at, oh -every review of Zelda- where people say they couldn’t go back to normal controls after slashing with the Wiimote. Gimmicky my arse!

I’ve been playing Zelda on Wii for about 8 hours now and I’m sick of the slashing. Sure it might be fun if my slashing weren’t pointless. The fact that I have no control over the sword and just flail my arm about to make the sword move angers me. I’d rather have a button for attacks unless I actually have control. If he makes a full 3D, we need control of the whip and special moves. Depending on how you swing the controller you get different combos. This would make it very fun. I’d love a side scroller too.
Whatever shows up, I want a Castlevania on Wii. In fact I’d like to have a lot of games that would give you fun control of the weapons using the wiimote. Sure you might only be able to play 2 hours before you start getting tired from it, but isn’t that good? Don’t we want people playing a little less video games and going outside once in a while? Or getting girlfriends? Maybe cleaning up a little? If Wii is a gimmick, it’s a great one.
