I think I know why Wii straps are breaking
Now that I’m actually playing Wii Sports, I think I’m starting to get why the straps on people’s controllers are giving out, and I think it has more to do with the Nunchuk than the strap itself.
And I hope you’re enjoying that terrible picture as much as I enjoyed taking it over and over before deciding on this one.
When you’re using the Wii Remote, the Nunchuk sits on the shelf. This goes for, I believe, every game in Wii Sports except Boxing, which uses both.
When you attach the Nunchuk for Boxing, or let’s say, Zelda, there’s a clip you’re supposed to feed the strap through. And it’s a tight fit to be sure, understandably so, because it’s got to be secure. But I would bet after a few dozen changes from Nunchuk to non-Nunchuk, it could weaken that connection, and I bet it does.
To make matters worse, if you try playing with the Nunchuk attached, the game tells you to remove it, presumably so you’re not flailing it around and clocking your toddler in the face.
And finally, check this out. I laughed at these people who can’t hold their Wii Remote properly. And I’ve had it slip in my hand… I almost lost it, and that was with dry hands. The game says “swing gently,” and you’d best do so, friends.
