So despite the serious an-ti-ci-pa-tion (cue Carly Simon here) I had surrounding the wait for Wii, I just had a look at the mess beside my TV and I’m disappointed in myself. I’m in a predicament here because my HDTV only has two component inputs and this is now my fourth device competing for those two slots. The digital cable box wins out, and the Gamecube is just going to have to move to the other room, but the DVD player is fighting the Wii at this point for the coveted COMPONENT-2. Right now, Wii is winning. Er, Wii are winning.

Have a look full size. You’ll be disappointed too.

Here’s the skinny. Wii in standby mode, Wii Remote and Nunchuk (I’ve been four places now for a second controller and they’re sold out everywhere), Hori Digital Gamecube controller (which I use to play Super Castlevania IV on Virtual Console), React component video cable, and a Wavebird which I was using for Super Castlevania IV but it felt too much like at-home dentistry performed on one’s self.

    Problem solved.

This is a common problem, easily solved with an $80 switch. You could also go the home-theater route, and get yourself a good A/V receiver that’ll have a few extra component inputs on it. Of course, that’ll cost a whole bunch more, but you’ll get a whole bunch more out of it once you add 5.1 speakers to it.

“Anyone else got a big sloppy mess on their Wii?”I’m not sure I’m comfortable answering this question.

I had this same problem till I upgraded my DVD player to an HD upconverting one with HDMI. I moved my DVD player to the HDMI port and the Wii to the newly available component.
