Get your gamer ink on.
Those of us with tattoos know that they’re more than a nearly indelible mark or means of looking tough, even if we can’t think of what right now. Oh yeah, they’re a means of expressing that whatever it is we’re representing means something of significance to us, whether it’s our astrological sign, a naked woman in a sailor hat, or… the triforce.
A casual look around tells me the most common gamer tattoos are the three triangles of the triforce from Legend of Zelda, which is also a traditional Japanese symbol representing a dragon’s scales that dates back a lot longer than most people think. I’ve seen a lot of Marios and things like that, and I’ve considered making my next tattoo gaming-related. The question is not whether or not to do it, but more whether or not to do it next, and how to do it.
The Sailor Jerry-style pinup girls are a very standard tattoo, so does one go and get Lara Croft in a pinup girl style? It’s no fun to just use the company’s official art, in addition to not really being particularly legal. I enjoyed hearing about the guy who’s body was covered with Disney art who went on TV and immediately heard from Disney, who told him they wouldn’t make him die a thousand deaths if he just stopped going on TV. But I digress.
I’m thinking something Metroid related. Maybe the morph-ball, or gunship, or Samus Aran, in her battle suit except for the helmet, in a traditional pinup pose and wearing a sailor hat.
Any of you guys have any gamer tattoos yet? What do you have? If I get some submissions, I’ll post an article with them all.
