EA Keeps Milkin’ The Burnout Cow

Milkin_Burnout_225.jpg I’m convinced that EA will squeeze every last bit of money out of their franchises, even to the point of bastardizing them completely. I’m sure you read the news about yet another Burnout heading our way, this time it will be entitled Burnout Dominator and be exclusively for the PS2 and PSP.

About a week ago, Electronic Arts boss Larry Probst spoke with Newsweek regarding their stance on the PSP. He said EA doesn’t have any strategy in-place to create new franchises on the PSP. I think many thought this was pretty damning for the handheld, but I actually got a good laugh out of it.

Since it’s launch, what new franchises has EA developed for rival consoles? When was the last time EA introduced any new IP to any console?

“Skate” on the 360 and PS3 is a new IP.

Normally I would agree with you on EA but Burnout is probably one of the only good things they have going. I have loved the past two Burnout games and hope they keep coming out. It’s the only racing series I like. Sure EA needs some new games and stop milking things like Madden, but why pick on Burnout. It just started getting good. I mean it’s only on its 4th release and to be honest the first 2 sucked.
The game is totally improving, while games like Madden keep digging their hole of death. Many EA games keep getting worse but Burnout is one in the series that has hope.

I believe Black was the major new IP released from EA last year – it wasn’t all that original, but it was technically a new franchise.

However they do still seem to be concentrating on a core set of a few beloved franchises which are each rapidly overtaking even ancient 8-bit franchises in terms of title count.
