Xbox 360 Wireless Headset Review

Submitted by Richard Windsor on November 6, 2006 – 1:07 pmComments

xbox-360-wireless-headset.jpgTo be completely wireless for the first time in gaming history is such a marvelous thing, that is if the new Microsoft Wireless Headset for the 360 is worth it’s $60 price tag. With all the good games coming out this week it might seem hard to justify an additional $60 but if you want to break free from the last cord you might just need to pick one up. Continue after the break for the full review.

When the 360 first launched I was depressed to hear that the first wireless headset would not be available for nearly a year. I had spent the last year using a Logitech wireless headset and had grown accustomed to using it every day, so going back to wires was a big bummer. 12 months later and I finally get the accessory that I want and for the most part I am pretty pleased with the new headset.

Comfort
The headset is very comfortable but if you have big ears getting it on might cause some problems but nothing major. I played for over 4 hours with the headset on and didn’t have any discomfort. It is very light and you tend to forget that it is even there. It comes with two ear pieces so you can adjust it to your ear size but the difference between the two is minimal. I wish they would have made the ear loop an open design so it could incorporate people with freakishly big ears (like myself), but it was big enough not to be too tight.

Quality
The audio quality is good for a wireless headset. I sent messages to several people on my friends list and they all said there was little distortion if any and that it sounded pretty similar to the corded headset. I also asked several people during actual games and they seemed to think the quality was very good. You might run into interference now and then but for the most part the signal was solid and never gave out.

Overall
So is the 360 Wireless headset worth it? That is better question to ask yourself. If you are happy with things they way they are then I would say spend your money on one of the great games coming out this November and then buy it later. If you have the cash and dream of going completely wireless then the new 360 wireless headset will not let you down. It’s a nice piece of hardware that adds nicely to 360 family. Now if only we could just get the power brick and other cables wireless….someday we will see Zanadoo!

How do you charge it and how long does the charge last? (Assuming it does need to be charged...)

I love mine, works great (and I don't lose the signal). Speaking of wireless, I swear I heard somewhere that someone was working to develope a wireless HD signal. Kinda vague, but I know I read that somewhere...

I will be getting more games first, but it does look pretty cool.
