Rumors of Their Demise Are Greatly True
It all started with Issue 1 of OPM. You could now pick up a magazine concerning your console, read about it, and try some new stuff out for it all at the same time thanks to the PlayStation demo disc that came packed with the magazine. As time went on and the PS2 came out the magazine started to couple a PS2 demo disc with it.
Now that PS3 is here the magazine has been, well, discontinued. The magazine has been stopped by Ziff Davis Media because they believe that with the powerful online capabilities of the PS3 and the ability to download everything you could get on a demo disc, a demo disc is no longer needed.
Sounds logical enough but was it really worth ending one of the best magazines in the industry? I think they should have stuck it out and watched how sales did without a demo disc before calling it off. Either way, OPM was a good magazine, one of my favorites before I decided I wasn’t really that interested in PS3, and I know that they will be missed. Thanks for a great magazine that had a great run guys.
