PS3 Disc Loaders Defective?

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …
Bummer man, I guess your friend is gonna have to wait a little bit longer.+
I can only imagine the call to Sony Support.
“Sir, did you plug it in?”
I’m sure a fix is just an easy firmware update away. In this case, the firmware is an entirely new console, but let’s not split hairs. It’s the most successful system launch ever, after all.
Tell the guy to package it up real nice and ebay that bitch!
What a way to get back at those rich sons o bitches sniping these on ebay.(for the record, I really don’t care about people doing this on ebay so dont spaz on me)
@Jack – I hope you are being sarcastic about the whole “It’s the most successful system launch ever, after all.” If not then you have a lot of catching uop to do my friend.
You know sadly I could see listing the unit as being broken on ebay and you would still get someone to buy it.
I’d say at least its not as bad as (some launch) 360s just crapping out, but if the end result is the same–sending it in to get repaired before you can play games–I guess it is just as bad.
Well serves him right, have some patience man and don’t run out there and grab one so he can brag about it, lets face it there’s no killer release game for it to be worth it. It’ll get fixed, meanwhile he can mess his pants while he plays on his PSP.
My friend also got a PS3 and he had this problem, but it went away. I hope Sony doesn’t have to many defective PS3s.
UPDATE: I went to my friends house to check out the PS3 and it was definetly a broken drive. The disc were clean, we even tried putting in blank CDR’s but nothing worked. We also noticed that the PS3 was scrathed to hell after only a few hours of handling, and the black finish just made it look worse. The other thing that is bothersome was the fact that he tried several times to sign up for the PS3 network but it kept timing out [that could be due to the amount of people signing up at once though.
I love how everyone says “don’t worry, a firmware update will fix that.” I have news for ya. Firmware updates aren’t a panacea. Not everything is fixable from a bios flash. The whole 1080i debacle, for example. The PS3 is missing the necessary hardware to upconvert its output. A firmware update can’t make up for missing components.
It’s gotta suck to wait in a line for three days, get your unit, go home, set it up and then have it spit out your disc. Hopefully there’s an easy solution to this that doesn’t include having to ship it away to get it fixed.
There is a VERY easy solution. Sell it on Ebay, and use that money to buy a real gaming system. Did you friend actually expect it to function properly? Not trying to be harsh…but hasn’t this kind of thing happened with past launches? Excluding Nintendo systems, but I won’t go on that tangent.
SOLUTION: Use the money from Ebaying it to purchase 360, Wii, or a PC. You’ll be much better off.
Wow, your friend is either unlucky or just a complete moron. I mean, if only 1 thing breaks, then it could be that thing’s fault, but if 2 things break, then its the user’s fault. And Kudos for making News from a phone call from a friend, what a reliable source!!
Uhh… I like to hate on Sony as much as the next Wii fanboy, but come on. What the hell is your friend doing to his PS3 that nothing works on it, AND it is scratched to hell? You’re trying to say that by merely touching and placing the console near your television set, it will start getting destroyed? No, I think those scratches are from your friend trying to kick the PS3. I had a friend who used to get mad at Windows and would kick his PC in and then wonder why it didn’t work right… It shocked the hell out of me the first time I saw him do it. Anyhow, tell him to have his mom or dad buy him a new PS3 and have them set it up for him.
I fucken Hate Sony
If anyone actually believes the ramblings of this xbot I feel sorry for you. What we have here is a troll flaming, blog style. My “friend” bought his PS3 and it broke his TV, then it raped his mother. I bet our friend “Richard” hasn’t even played one yet.
got my ps3 today and it does the same shit.. now have to wait to ship it back to sony. hope i get something out of it … like a free game
Well I just got home and hooked up My PS3 and games will not load…Defected loader…THIS F-IN SUCKS! I am fucking Very UPSET!!!!!!!!!!
I just got a 20 gb ps3 and the disc drive is broken! However I was still able to register online and download all demos from the ps store. But whenever I try inserting a disc, it spins and goes in most of the way leaving only a small amount of the disc exposed, then it ejects after a few seconds! Since I am able to play the demos I downloaded, and only the disc drive seems broken, why can’t I simply ship the broken disc drive to sony for a replacemetn then instal the new one myself??
I also just opened my PS3, and it is broken out of the box. Like jp above, I was able to get online, download Gran Turismo update, register, etc. When I went to play Resistance, the slot loader would only take it in about halfway, spin it a little, and then spit it back out. What a useless piece of shit- I am returning for a full refund. The Wii is way better, and I have been playing that exclusively since launch. Sony needs to think twice if they are pushing defective hardware out the door simply to compete with Nintendo’s numbers- they are going to lose this console war. My PS3 cannot even do what it was built for- play games! What the hell? FUCK YOU, Sony!
I love my ps3… it works flawlessly and resistance is a lot more fun than gears… or more other games ive played online (yes, ive played both quite a bit, so shut up if you think im making blind statements). it sucks hard that a few of you guys got shitty drives… but dont hate the system for a faulty component. get it repaired and give it another shot, you wont regret it. sorry to say it guys but ps3 is the future of gaming, and it has one uped 360 in almost every aspect. every launch has its problems, and ps3 seems to be one of the best launches(aside from shortage… i had to kill someone to get mine haha). if your a wii fan… then youre a little child. that system was built for little kiddies and that is exactly who will play it… little kiddies who have their mommies and daddies out shopping for them and buying the cheapest new system on the market. in the end… you gotta see it like this, you get what you pay for. that leaves the rankings as follows: ps3 #1 360#2 and wii a very far #3… if you dont count ps2 or xbox against it haha. and for all of you out there disagreeing with me, you either are just a plain retard who cant see the facts, or youre pissed off about what you know deep down… ps3 has won this round of the next gen consoles.
Add another one to the list fellas. I finally got my hands on a 60gb ps3 yesterday. Spent an hour last night setting up all of the preferences, networking, downloading the 1.32 patch, etc. etc. getting all the wiring and system setup just “so” in my TV cabinet.
Unwrapped COD3 and inserted the disc. (Giggling in anticipation for my first glimpse of HD gaming on my 37″ Sharp Aquos)
…
And then
…
Duhn duhnnn duhnnnnnn!
…
The ps3 disc loader binged and purged my disc faster than Nicole Richie on a cheeseburger.
Resisting the urge to toss the unit against the wall (an void the warranty), I called SCEA and they are doing a complete system swap for a new one by courier at their expense. Turn around time is about a week. The rep didn’t seem overly surprised when I said the disc loader was defective.. maybe a hint that this isn’t such a unique issue??
I have to say, I’m disappointed the system crapped out right out of the box, but I’m impressed with their quick response.
Hopefully this doesn’t happen to too many more people..
mine works perfectly… the fan is f***ing quiet
