While video games are probably not a huge issue in the elections today, Joystiq has an article up about which politicians have voiced their opinions on games. While you might not want to base your vote completely on how they feel about games, it’s something to consider. Politicians are listed from the states of California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, and Connecticut.

To stay informed all the time, and not just around elections, consider joining the Video Game Voters Network.

Voting is widely portrayed in our society as a civic duty, but I don’t feel guilty about not voting today. First, there’s a strong argument that voting is irrational. See, e.g., http://www.freakonomics.com/times1106col.php. Second, there are no good choices. My choice in this year’s Senate race, for example, is between Hillary Clinton and her Republican challenger. Even in a hypothetical scenario in which I knew that my vote would determine the winner, I wouldn’t be able to choose, because I can’t identify either candidate as the lesser of two evils. Voting for the Republican would increase the odds of the Republicans retaining control of the Senate, and I would sooner eat a turd than vote for Hillary Clinton for any elected office.
When your only choice is between equivalently bad outcomes, your power to choose is illusory. In that case, it’s better to abstain from making a choice than to dignify the illusion.

If you’re not gonna vote for yourself or for your country. Vote for those who have to put up with your country, Vote for Canadians like me.

  • 11440:
I don’t vote either. What are my options: Evil A or Evil B. I don’t believe in choosing the lesser of two evils, and let’s face it, if you’re not (D) or (R) then you have no chance of winning.

    Andrew:
You’re an ignorant dumbass. Go suck a puck.

I read the Freakonomics article. So what would happen if no one at all voted?

And when I do vote, I vote because I don’t want them (the government) to think nobody cares and that they can get away with whatever they want.

  • Kat:
The government CAN get away with whatever they want. World’s going to hell no matter what anyone does. Destruction is what it means to be human. Voting is a fruitless pursuit. You might see some short term effect, but in the end: we all lose.
