Cheating is bad, mmkay?

Some people have such low self-esteem that they actually cheat to get Xbox 360 Achievement points. I know all of your, our honest readers, are simply appalled at this, but it’s true. People have been gaming the system. That’s why there shouldn’t BE an Achievements system in the first place… things like this always get cheated. Even lousy little flash games on websites – people take the time to hack their high score lists, putting their name at the top with literally impossible scores.

Fortunately, in the Dashboard update, Microsoft has made cheating a little harder. For most games, you can no longer download a game save from a site and cheat with it to obtain an achievement. Mygamercard.net is also joining in, setting up an algorithm to catch cheaters – such as those who unlock all 1000 Oblivion points in one day – an impossible task. Now, cheaters will have to find another way to bump up their self-esteem.

I never understood cheaters, The only game I really spend some time with playing online was Burnout 3 on the ps2 and it’s fascinating to see what people do to get some extra points.

Like buying an extra ps2, making a locked game with both ps2 logged in and doing takedowns all night on the other car that’s standing still. Than there the smarter types that got a top-ranking with only one game played in there stats.

I’m not even going to start about the wars that being fight out on the server between cheaters. Those happen when one cheater accuse a other for cheating.

If there is anything I’ve learned from playing that game online, it’s that’s there a (big) group of lowlifes that don’t play for fun but there only interest is gaining some points and they are willing to spends days on it.

The only reason I can imagine that someone would dislike the achievement system and say it should be abolished is that they actually _do_ care about their score, and are mad that other people have higher numbers than them. (by cheating?)

Why do you care what other people’s scores are? I look at it as a personal list of how much of my games I’ve completed. I really enjoy silly achievements, like many the ones in Dead Rising.
They make me play my games longer, and experiment more.

Relax, this is about having fun, remember? If other people are cheating to raise their score, how does that make your gaming less fun?
