Because of this article, and the previous one, I am no longer going to visit Aeropause. I'm not visiting 1UP anymore either. Sorry, but I just don't trust gaming news sites that give in to hype and fanboyism. It might be perfect from a personal standpoint, but that's bias, and perfect scores should NEVER be given out unless it's something truly ABOVE AND BEYOND. Gears of War is NOT above and beyond, it's just done really, really superb for it's genre, just like God of War did for it's genre. And on top of that Aeropause and 1UP gave Gears of War a perfect score despite the fact that you both cited flaws. In 1UP's side this gross error is compounded by the fact that the reviewer for Gears at 1UP, Dan Hsu, just happens to be a personal friend of Cliffy B, bringing bais into the world of gaming jornalism on a scale like I, personally, have never seen before. It's just sad.

I disagree, Jack. Halo 2 is STILL the number one Xbox Live game because people have been playing multiplayer constantly for 2 years. Long after the honeymoon period. Gears of War is right at that same level. There are going to be people who will play this online non-stop for the foreseeable future. Mark my words, it's going to enter the insane multiplayer stratosphere inhabited by Halo 2 and Counter-Strike.

"The complexity of game design will always allow for bugs within a game but Gears rises far above the small bugs it has and gives everyone out there a reason to pick up a 360"

Ok, I'd argue Pong deserves a 10 then.

Great game. But it's good enough that'd I drop $400, plus any extras I might need, in one visit to a game store.. just for this game? Come on now, it's a great game, but let's come on back down to earth with us plebians for a spell, ok? People will ut this game down in three months time, and they'll be left with a $400 console. That's very short sighted of me, since there are other games out there for 360 worth getting, but come on. We throw 'killer app' around a little too freely these days, I think. If anything, this is a "killer app" for people who already own the 360, not the other way around.

I argue all the time that games are supposed to be fun, not just graphically impressive or some of the other reasons people pull out of their you know whats to make a game sound better than it is. Gears is a really fun game, however, it doesnt deserve a perfect score. The matchmaking is bleh and it is too short and not so challenging that it takes several re-tries to beat a final boss, but kinda easy.

This game is basically the hardcore gamers halo 2. way too hyped for what it is. Short single player but fun multiplayer. It is a great game, but not that great.

It's not perfect but it might be one of the most perfect games released to date. I picked it up and did not put it down until the end boss. And I am super impressed with innovative and intuitive gameplay. And thats even without speaking of the multiplayer.

You have 5 GoW stories on the front page. Aeropause likes GoW, we get it. Give it a rest or rename yout blog to GoWBlog.

(Don't mind me, I'm just mad because my 360's been in the shop for three weeks and I haven't played any GoW yet)

This is why the 100 or even 10 point scale is broken. Arguing about game ratings is nonsense. Ratings are subjective and the number should not hold as much weight as the written review. Games should use a 4 or 5 start system so that all the possible ratings get used. I would rather play a game that got a "7" and sounded interesting than a game that gets a "perfect 10" that sounds like a game I've played before. (I'm not implying that GoW is such a game)

Anyway, most of the games I liked from last gen were not even the highest rated games. But I could tell from the review that I was going to love it.

Putting so much emphasis on the number takes away from the review itself and todays short attention span gamers (all gamers?) often don't bother to read a review even though it may be quite positive if the reviewer gave it a 7 or lower.
