Xbox Live And Lumines Buggy

Submitted by on October 18, 2006 – 8:34 am4 Comments

bugs.jpgAnyone who was hoping yesterday’s server maintenance would improve their Xbox Live experience was severely mistaken. I flipped on my (normally stable) 360 this morning only to have it lock up three times en route to the Live Marketplace. I finally got to the Marketplace, downloaded Lumines Live and when I tried to launch it, the 360 crashed again on me. This alone happened twice.

I hoped to check out the Official Xbox Forums for answers, but the site won’t let me login. Pretty amusing.

I was finally able to launch and play Lumines Live. I have to be honest, the 360 D-Pad is the worst. It’s basically Lumines but with bad controls, can’t recommend it to anyone especially for 1,200 points. I’m a huge Lumines fan, so it really hurts to say that.

It turns out that I’m not the only one who’s experiencing this. Xbox360Fanboy.com is also reporting errors as well. Is anyone out there running into anything unique this morning?

**UPDATE** 3:12pm Eastern 10/18

It turns out that My Xbox and the Xbox Forums will be down until at least tomorrow, according to the official site announcement.

Phew, so it’s not just me. I tried to connect SEVERAL times and it would not connect. Finally, I was able to connect and things seemed fine at that point, though I didn’t try out the marketplace or anything like that.

i’ve found the 360′s analog works well for games like this. takes a couple games to get use to. even works better on the older games like frogger, the analog is just a better choice.

but yeah, the d-pad isn’t to great.

I actually had no problems getting on, I wonder if the probelsm are happening in only specific regions. Major nelson alos just posted that they know about the issues and are working on them doubletime.

Is the problem the responsiveness of the dpad? I’m not able to download the game until after work but I will test it with the controller I have. However, if this is in fact the issue, there’s a fix that worked for me:

The plastic around the dpad sometimes doesn’t allow it to travel far enough for it to reach the sensor. This means you sometimes have to push it harder in that direction, unless you give it the room it needs with a piece of sand paper :)
