Taxing game earnings
Bad news for those who’ve been enjoying tax-free money made in games like Second Life. The US government is looking into taxing those earnings. Lots of companies, like Wired, have been setting up virtual representations of themselves inside Second Life – so does this mean we’ll soon be seeing H&R Block offering to do our taxes in-game as well? The good news is that the chairman of the committee looking into this issue, Jim Saxon, says he thinks it would be a mistake to tax earnings from games. I suppose this is all part of the growing pains that virtual worlds have to go through.
