Sunlight – Still The Gamer’s Worst Enemy

Submitted by on October 9, 2006 – 5:44 pm7 Comments

sun.jpeWhen you mix the Wii with sunlight something happens: the Wii ceases to work. At least that is what “Warpstar Knight” from the Nintendo NSIDER Forums is claiming. The impressions are from OMBRENOIR17′s September 14 visit to the Nintendo World Store and they reveal that the natural light completely forced the kiosks for Metroid Prime under curtains and even caused total failure in the shooting game demo and Wii Sports Tennis. The kiosks became functional once more as the Earth rotated and moved the side of the planet further away from the sun. Apparently the problem comes when sunlight disrupts the Wii’s sensor bar.

Hopefully this will be ironed out by launch because I really don’t want to have to black-out the inside of my house to be able to play Wii.

    Very interesting, Matt.

This also makes me wonder how the Wii is going to work with mt HD projector…

“I really don’t want to have to black-out the inside of my house to be able to play Wii.”

Oh, cmon, you know you’re gonna close your curtains whenever you play with your Wii!!!

Sorry, that was too good (or bad) to pass up.

Yeah, anyway, this doesn’t sound so good. Personally, I will be unaffected as my gaming setup is in my poorly lit basement. (I love poorly lit) But some people may have issues with this.

    Lets hope it gets sorted.

Oh, also, your “more” link, looks like its a jump to more lengthy local commentary from Aeropause, rather than a link to the originating article. Just a suggestion, but you may want to use some wording like “via joystiq” or whatever so the reader knows the link is taking him away from this site. Not trying to be bossy or anything, just an observation.

Subnet6: sorry about the confusion man.

This has been an issue since day one. Infra red is an ancient technology, sunlight negates it.

Try playing a DS Phat in the sun… I’ve now seen the Lite – er, I bought one. :)

  • Uh-oh.

I guess this doesn’t bode well for those of us who live near the equator.
