Penny Arcade groks ESRB bill
Today, Peny Arcade released a comic and corresponding news post calling out the now infamous “Truth in Video Game Rating Act” as an attempt to dissolve the ESRB by giving them rules that are impossible to follow.
Not only that, but the bill in no way would’ve solved the problem, anyway. Both Hot Coffeee and the Oblivion nude patch were revealed by user-created mods which no amount of “playing through completely” would have found.
Congratulations, Congress, on proving once again how inept and/or corrupt you are.
I would encourage all within the U.S. to contact their senators about this Bill. There is a site with contact info for all of the senators. From experience, I know that they are more likely to consider your emails and letters if you are an actual constituent. (That means a registered voter within their district or state.) When you contact them, I would even suggest copying and pasting the text of Penny Arcade’s news post. Call me an optimist, but a lot of mail on this subject containing intelligent rationale as to why this bill is, shall we say, not well thought out, will do a lot of good.
