Is It All About The Price?

It’s all about the games, right? That’s still the golden rule, is it not? Nintendo’s got great games, you just won’t have a whole lot of them. The PS2, being the weakest system of current gen, showed us that it’s not all about the hardware.

CNN discusses how, for this Next Gen, it just might be all about the price.

Waiiiiit a minute – the PS2 is the weakest system of the current gen?! Wouldn’t that be the Gamecube? The PS2 sold just fine and even with the PS3 coming out, it still has dozens of games in development.

Kat, I believe he intended weakest _hardware_. But, indeed, even with a messy launch, high initial price, weak hardware compared to the NGC and the Xbox and poor launch titles, it managed to be the best selling console of this generation due to many blockbuster titles (like FF and GTA), acceptance in electronics stores because of PS2′s DVD support and because of the “Playstation” name itself. Like Kenny said, many people will buy a box full of rubbish with the Playstation name in it on the first week of sales, regardless of price or titles.

Yeah, support for the ps3 is really, really weak, or so it seems. Im not getting one, most people i know arent getting one for a while after launch. hmm… oh well, we’ll just see if sony can keep their name as king this go around.
