Game-only network – a solution to lag in online games
![]()
There’s a new ISP in town for games only called GameRail. The network is entirely fiber optic, and since light travels, well, at the speed of light, it’s faster. They offer this statistic for comparison: A regular ping over the Internet, from east coast to west, would normally take 80-100 milliseconds. On the GameRail network, it takes 30.
Currently in beta-testing, GameRail only works on PCs, because it requires special software to be installed, but they do hope to eventually support consoles as well. GameRail says the cost will be less than $15 per month once they launch, but if you can manage to get into the beta, it’s currently free. And remember, that $15 is in addition to your regular broadband connection, since GameRail is only for running games. What do you think, MMO fans? Is it worth it to lose the lag?
