I noticed this too last week. Why would they do this? The only difference is the box art, if that. That’s some pretty spiffy box art!

I think ALL of the review score is up to personal opinion. I gave Madden NFL 07 2.5 out of 5, and I saw in EGM while on the pot this morning that one of the reviewers gave it 8.5, although that may not have been the Xbox 360 version… I’ll have to double check. Anyway, it’s all up to personal opinion.

Every time I see something like this, I go back in my mind through all those games I passed over because of a negative review. I make a resolution not to weigh my decisions too heavily on the reviews and look for only defects and bugs, not the reviewers opinions.

But in the end, possibly for the sake of time, I go back to the score more-often then not. I tend to enjoy reviews without scores at all, forcing me to actually read. I’m sure I’m in the minority with that.

Why bother write a REVIEW if you’re not going to be a decent amount objective in your REVIEW? If people want to read your subjective views, they’ll read a RANT or EDITORIAL or ARTICLE of some sorts. Typically, I would think a review should try to encompass a great deal of objective information (although ultimately derived from a vicarious standpoint, it will be subjective to an extent, but I think most people here can get what I mean) to help the reader possibly decide on a decision on whether to check the game out or not.
