Final Red Steel Website Launched!

Submitted by on October 6, 2006 – 6:43 pm3 Comments

Just yesterday, Ubisoft announced that it finished the website(found here) for one of it’s most acclaimed games, Red Steel for the Wii. The site even features a preorder link and a separate order link, which is weird, because at the time of this writing you can’t actually preorder the game. But I’m sure they’ll have it available for order soon enough.

Over-all the site is extremely impressive on the visual side, at least. It runs off of flash and your cursor is in the shape of the aiming cursor in earlier versions of the game. There is even a little Wii remote at the bottom which follows your movements. At the site you’ll also find all of the trailers, including the one I posted yesterday, on a link at the homepage. There is also a well-done developer blog which I urge you to check out. On the Extras link, you’ll find several interesting things to do. The most entertaining of which is Train with the Sensei. There really isn’t any point in doing it, but it is a great time-waster.

God, I hope this game is good. The story, art style and gameplay have so many possibilities. Personally, I think this game is going to have a massive ripple effect in the success of the Wii, at least among hardcore gamers. If this game is great, it will prove the Wii-mote is for real for hardcore genre’s. If it flops, it will seriously damage the credibility of the controller for games other than Wii-sports/casual games.

Obviously Zelda will have a little say about this as well, but not as much. I think a lot of third parties will be watching the success of Red Steel. Many third parties are afraid to publish for the nintendo home consoles because even relatively good third party games didn’t sell really well on the cube. I can’t blame them but I hope its different this time around. I think the large launch volume will go a long way to boost development even further. If nintendo can sell a few million consoles by christmas, people will take notice and so will devs. We all know the system with the most (not necessarily the best) games wins and 360 is really starting to build its library and I can’t imagine that PS3 won’t have a very strong lineup within a year. I honestly hope all 3 consoles do very well. I love having lots of choices and competition is great for the consumer. Sorry for the rant, I’m out!

  • Kill Bill with a Red Steel

That web site seems a bit rip-offish of the Kill Bill series. The music sounds just like a rip-off of that Japanese song with the awsome guitar rocking that Kill Bill made famous, and the “Sensei” from the mini-game on the site looks just like the evil bastardo that trained Uma and One-Eye. Not to mention all the katana’s and prime color splashes too.

Looks like a good game, and so far it shows that Nintendo will have better 3rd party support, rather than last time’s.

However, lack of online play really makes me mad.
