Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Fall Update Bricking Xbox 360′s?

Submitted by on October 31, 2006 – 2:40 pm11 Comments

360Brick.jpgGamespot is calling a rumor about Xbox 360′s becoming “bricks” due to the Fall Update “Not Bogus”. Apparently, numerous Xbox 360 owners have reported their system has been unusable since today’s dashboard update went live.

Microsoft has remained unusually silent on the subject thus far, possibly investigating the validity before making an absolute statement. Many believe that part of the update was intended to brick modded 360′s, however the people complaining about their system claim to not be running a modded 360.

I’m sure this is an isolated issue and can happen with any update. Has anyone ran into any trouble with their system today? I haven’t even fired up my 360 yet today.

  • DAMN IT. This better not be what’s wrong with my 360. Tried doing the update this morning and couldn’t get it working. Got typically frustrated with the useless souls who work the Xbox tech support phones and hung up intending to try later. My brother-in-law’s update went completely smooth on the first try, and his is a launch console.

Dammit… I was just about to fire up my 360 to download the new update…

Can I play without it updating until I find out what the deal is?

  • Richard says:

The whole bricking thing is only with 360′s that have been modded in anyway. They released a statement earlier about it. Microsoft did it on purpose to screw with modders. Both of my 360′s are working perfect since the update!

  • Matthew Mac says:

Mine works just fine since the update, though I suppose MS will either release a patch or deal with the bricked Xboxes on an individuall bases. Oh, and you can play, but not log onto Live, without the update.

  • George says:

Yeah, I don’t think there’s been any statements from MS about this at all. However, there are quite a few inaccuracies floating around that should be noted.
First, the likelyhood of this being intentional on MS’s part is pretty slim given that fact that the “bricking” is only occurring on a very specific modded firmware version (and old one, at that) on a very specific type of 360 drive. (There’s 5 different drive models used in the 360, BTW.)
Second, this isn’t actually bricking since re-flashing the original firmware back to drive fixes the problems and the 360 will then work normally again. Theoretically, you could then re-flash a different version of the hacked firmware.

I updated this evening and all appeared okay. Then I started playing games and suddenly started getting this weird clicking sound. I at first suspected something with my receiver but it only happens when the 360 is on, and it’s not constant.

Here’s hoping that the problem has something to do with the dashboard update and not my receiver…not really in the market to replace the receiver, at least not until I’ve paid off the new LCD and the 360.

When i first turned my 360on it froze during the sign in. i restarted it and it downloaded the update fine. haven’t played anything yet but i am downloadingthe TMNT trailer. so we’ll see if it interfears with gameplay

  • Raz says:

    Hi there…I had that problem.
My xbox360 got the black screen of death with Error 71…
It broke and it’s gone :(

I called support and they told me it was a hardware problem…my theory is that this new update finally detected a hardware problem with my xbox 360 that has been causing me some sporadic little problems since day 1. But since I know shit about hardware, I may be totally wrong.

They told me they will fix it for free….which was weird considering the fact that I bought it on last december. But it’s cool with me :)

Oh, by the way, I live in Mexico

i’ve been having some framerate issues since i downloaded the fall update and cranked up my 360 to 1080p.

  • ARMISTICErj says:

I had a problem not after the dash board update but after they shut down xbox live for maintenance about 1-2 weeks ago for a day on tuesday i believe. Everyday after that i have had a problem staying connected to live. some games like splinter cell it happens about every other game session and some do it much less but still happens. when it first started disconnecting me for no reason my 360 would freeze constantly. it’s not pausing anymore but still getting frequent disconnects. checked all my internet connections and reset my internet eqiuipment, and still disconnecting, and truthfully i’m getting fucking annoyed.

  • Pure Pel says:

i downloaded the update and my xbox now freezes on every game dvd and even freezes on the xbox menu screen constantly gettin the black error screen…before this update i had no problems what so ever. its now a brick. very dissapointed
