City of Heroes Promotional Weekend

In celebration of their new combo product, City of Heroes “Good Versus Evil Edition”, PlayNC is reactivating select, previously-expired CIty of Heroes accounts. Logging into your account sometime this weekend before 11:59pm EST on Sunday, October 8th 2006, will earn you a full free month of City of Heroes.

I played CoH for a few months, but grew tired of it’s repetitive nature. I did find it to be very friendly for casual gamers when compared to other MMOGs. The press release is below:

    I agree that it’s somewhat in the early levels, but they seem to be trying to fix that in various ways. The recently-released PvP areas are interesting (especially Siren’s Call), and on the Villain side they’ve introduced “Mayhem” missions, which are directionless and score-based rather than pass-fail, so I hear.

    I think City of Heroes would work best as a king of super-powered Grand Theft Auto, where automated systems interact with the players to produce interesting situations. The setting’s already there, certainly, but ultimately the game is too scripted out. Even Mayhem missions all take place within an instanced map.
