And the Good Design Award goes to: Xbox 360
The “Good Design Awards” are awarded by a Japanese group to products that they feel are not only designed well, but the design process is considered as well. According to 1up, the Xbox 360 was chosen for many reasons:
Specific points that appealed to the judges include the concave bodyline, the ability to place the machine both vertically and horizontally, removable faceplate allowing users to decorate the machine to their liking, the combination of wireless controller and ring design, which also acts as a power button and houses the machine’s icon, and the comprehensive international design process that allowed it all to happen.
I’ve been known to rag on Microsoft for their moronic software interfaces (don’t get me started on Vista) but from a purely external, hardware standpoint, the Xbox 360 really is very good. Cripes, we’ve had consoles for how long now, and we FINALLY got around to putting a power button on the controller, where it belongs.
