An Alternative Future (Article Series)

I’m starting another 3-part article series as a followup to our “The Changing Face of Gaming” article series in which I talked about the fundamental shift in how games are sold, distributed, and played, that has been brought about by technologies such as high-speed internet connections and emulation.

At the end of that series I mentioned that I would consider what we, the gamers, could do to curb some of the potential problems with the new gaming landscape. With much furore over the cost of Lumines on XBox Live Marketplace, it seems like a good time to start talking about what we can do (if anything) to avoid a future in which we have little option but to bow down to our new online game distributing overlords.

Please look out for the first article in this series, “Don’t Pay For Horse Armour”, over the next few days, with all articles out within a couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the previous article series; you really got the cogs moving.
