A dancing MMO – seriously

When I think of DDR plus an MMO, I think of massive amounts of people looking dorky and making dancing fools of themselves. It’s all coming to reality with the new PC game called Dance! It’s going to be free to play online and will feature customizable dancing characters, teams, and competitions. Now, Kotaku makes this sound like doing DDR over a webcam, but the “customizable character” makes me think the player will just be making their *character* dance on screen. How that might be done is unclear – whether via regular controller or dance mat.
With shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol” on TV, I can see how playing singing and dancing games over the Internet would be popular. However, I don’t think we’ll see Karaoke Revolution go multiplayer – there’s already a free online alternative called SingShot, where you can upload videos of yourself singing and let people vote.
