32 Players In Your Palm

32 Players Online on the PSPWhen I first read that Socom FireTeam Bravo would feature 16 player online with voice chat, I was pretty amazed. There was no better moment than when I logged into FireTeam Bravo while waiting in the lobby of my doctors office (unsecured WiFi is bliss). Since then, my PSP comes to every appointment and every waiting room with hopes that a WiFi network is nearby.

IGN has reviewed Medal of Honor Heroes, a new first person shooter released today on the PSP. Juan Castro calls it, “the best first-person shooter on the system,” and that it, “sets the bar for handheld first-person shooters.” He gave it an 8.4 “Impressive” Editor’s Choice Award. The real key to the game is it’s 32-player online multiplayer, which blows away Socom FireTeam Bravo’s 16 player online. Castro says that it runs beautifully with 30 other people in a room and it must be pretty amazing to see.

Even better, EA is planning to release software to allow users to host their own dedicated servers. I can’t recall the last time a console developer released anything like that.
