Actually, the Xbox360 *is* region-locked, but a lot of games for it are released region-free (it's up to the publisher). Importers like Play-Asia have sections for region-free Xbox360 games:

<a href="http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-fc-49-en.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-fc-49-en.html</a>

The Playstation3 is region-locked for Blu-Ray, but not for games. I guess it's because Sony sees a strong financial reason for price discrimination for their Blu-Ray market, but not really for the games market. (Evident to this, DVDs are much more expensive in Japan compared to the rest of the world)

Considering how Nintendo has been batting 1.000 recently with the Wii, I was pretty stunned when they decided NOT to go region free. Especially when Sony and Microsoft have opted to do that with their systems.

Then again, it's just Nintendo being Nintendo. They've always done it their way, whether we like it or not.
