Rechargeable USB Batteries

usbbatteries.jpgIf these things actually work and keep going and going and going, count me in. A company by the name of USBCELL has produced AA batteries that recharge via any standard USB port. The company states that the batteries will last even longer then conventional rechargeable batteries. This is good but while skimming their website I found out that full charge time for just one of these is over 5 hours. So all is not great but if you are strapped for cash and need a battery solution to power your 360 controller they might be a good option.

“Like many NiMH rechargeables in the AA and AAA form factors these are 1.2 VDC and not 1.5 volts like ‘real’ batteries. This is usually not a problem when a device only uses one or two batteries, but anything that uses four or more in series is unlikely to work properly due to the cumulative difference in voltage. My son’s giant robot battle scorpion, for example, requires six batteries in series for 9 volts total, but rechargeables typically only provide 7.2 even at peak charge, and this leaves the scorpion unable to fend off enemy robot cockroaches or the neighbor girl’s robot kissing bug.”
