Donkey Kong’s Bored Game

Video Game board games in the 1980′s never took off. They were there to compliment the game and make a quick buck – much like video games-turned-movies are these days. In 1982 Milton Bradley released a Donkey Kong board game where up to 4 players could play in a setting that replicates its arcade hit as much as they possibly could. X-Entertainment managed to give us a detailed look at how the game was played out and tried their best to give it a positive review despite the 36,000 worded manual. Yes, the manual is insane! Here’s how they summed it up:
“Not worth playing, and definitely not worth tracking down. The only benefit I got out of this thing was a new monkey toy to put on our wall unit. Everything else was a complete letdown. Maybe Donkey Kong was just too difficult to translate from the arcade to a board game home version. Maybe it couldn’t be done…”
