Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Texas Hold’em is Broken

Submitted by on August 25, 2006 – 10:58 am5 Comments

poker-766142.jpgI saw over on Evil Avatar that some astute blogger has posted several of the problems, including cheating:

Apparently there’s a way to immediately quit tournament games and have it think you were the winner and award you the full prize. The online leaderboard, at some point yesterday, showed the top spot being 800,000 bucks with only 40 hands played. Whaa?

He should probably add to his list that last night, I entered a tournament table, and the entire game hard froze. I had to manually turn off the 360 and reboot. Yeah… there are definitely some problems. But like the man said, you get what you pay for.

It’s funny, I have played god know how many hands of Texas Hold’em and I have had very few issues. The cheating thing is true, it is still a lot of fun though, luckily not many people care about there rankings. They just like the social aspect of the game.

I think the these games have problems because its impossible to test these games under the conditions that they are going to really run. I don’t see MS paying over 500,000 game testers to sit down and work out the bugs. That is what we are for once we get the game.

Remember, even though online gaming is common it is still relatively young and as such will never be perfect.

Except all of the issues that were mentioned in the original post are the kinds of things that should’ve been caught and/or resolved in even a very basic, introductory QA test. Also, most of them are issues of design and usability. And the duplicate card graphics… that’s just total sloppiness.

Yeah, the crap’s broken, and there needs to be a patch. That’s all there is to it.

  • Richard says:

Broken is a hard word though! I have played over 500 hands and have yet to expierience any issues that make the game unenjoyable. Troubled or in need of a patch is a better way of describing this game becaue it is far from broken.

  • George says:

Well, if a game is broken, it can still be “fun” for a lot of people. I started playing Counter-Strike with Beta 2, and it was LOADS of fun back in the day… horribly broken, but still fun.
