Review: Dragon Ball Z – Ultimate Tenkaichi (PS3)

October 28, 2011 – 12:44 pm |

I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.
This year, we …

Phil Harrison, The Gilligan of Gaming

philgilligan.jpgEver since the debacle that was E3. Phil Harrison has managed to make himself and to some degree Sony look like blabbering fools. Why does Sony keep letting him speak? If this was politics he would have been canned long ago, locked up tight in a bunker and never heard from again! For some reason Sony is content on letting him run around stuffing his foot farther and farther back in his mouth!

Phil reminds me of Gilligan because he is the comedic relief that gets us through the day. He is the scapegoat for the rest of the cast (Sony) and everything seems to be his fault, even though the blame lies with many. Phil has what I deem the worst job at Sony, the fall man.

The PS3 will be a good machine, even though it may be overpriced, but every time Phil speaks we have to hear comments like

My god these comments make me laugh. I work in the games industry for one of the largest companies. We have many PS3 and 360 titles in dev or planning right now and I can tell you a few factiods.

    1) The 360 right now is the most powerful peice of kit around. This may change in the next 3-4 years when devs get fully wise to the cells. However right now the cell is a bastard to develop for and has too may bottlenecks and memory issues in comparison to the 360. Also given Sony’s poor dev support that won’t change overnight.
    2) In terms of graphics the 360 is ahead. it has twice the phyisical RAM and more power to move that info
    3) In terms of framerate until point 1 is forfilled the 360 will be better in this area in most games.
    4) Support – Microsoft are bending over backwards to support the developers on 360, Sony however are not and are nowhere near as ready to launch a platform given a comapriosn at the same time as last year with the 360.
    5) Microsoft have the online arena all to themsleves. The Sony solution is poor like the PS2 and the PSP interface bolted on doesn’t actually do anything to help that.

Given those 5 facts in near term the Ps3 will sell out in the first 6 months to Sony Fan boys, who will be disappointed with the poor software and hardware support from Sony.

The real test will be Xmas 08 when the Blue Ray platform will have either died or survived and all 3 platforms will have had a few killer titles to view.

Lots of Sony hate these days. Some people need to grow up, as they can’t handle that Sony is No. 1.

Who are they going to attack next in the Sony Corporate hierarchy?

By the way, just to piss you off even more, Sony is No. 1. LOL!

I’m going to respond to George becuase I appreciate the way he laid out his points in a reasoned, intelligent manner.

“1) “This is my personal view, not my corporate view, …” (Then Sony does the same exact thing, ouch!)

He gives his personal view, and then corporate disagrees with him. I don’t see the contradiction.”

While this may not make Phil actively dumb, it only reinforces the point that he isn’t a very good spokesperson. When you step into that role, everything you say is representative of the company; like it or not, your personal view is the corporate view. That’s PR. When you publicly state that you disagree with your company’s policies (retroactively or otherwise) it’s bad for image and leads to… well, scathing editorials on influential blogs, for starters.

As for the other quote, I really don’t see what that means in the context of Live Anywhere. I’d say that it makes even *less* sense, actually. Is the PS3 a cell phone too?
