I worked at a Best Buy and the cd players that have the slot, which is like 98%, have real problems with the slots sometimes. The get crammed with dirt and it accumilates over time. I forsee a lot of PS3 owners having issues with gunked up cd slots! The disc slot can cause more problems then a tray can.
