Coca Cola Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Ad

Submitted by Shane on August 12, 2006 – 11:57 amComments

What would the Coca-Cola company do if they had a Grand Theft Auto-themed commercial? Would they show the dark side of the ever so popular game? Would they show beatings, muggings and shootings? Heck no, they’d show the lighter, more upbeat side of the media’s game they love to hate. In this CG spot done by the agency Wieden & Kennedy for Coca-Cola, we see our iconic GTA hero hinting at negative practices as we know them but all he wants to do is share the love that is Coca-Cola. It’s a funny parody and some well done CG for a game that hasn’t always had the most positive connotations associated with it. The agency also hit the nail on the head with the style of animation, spoofing the latest CG movies that we see these days with that happy-go-lucky, naive look and feel.

    found another fault.
he goes in the shop and take 1 bottle.
then he goes out and take the guy out of his car.
give him his coke and -> the magic -> got another bottle out of nowhere.

Sugary drinks make you fat and artificial sweetners such as aspartame and (whatever its called)-K have been linked to BRAIN CANCER!
  • Too bad about Coke's long history of human rights abuses!

I have played GTA sinds version 1 and I really like it! Sure it doesn't resemble Vice City, but that's not important. I think rockstar agreed to this, because it helps them as well!

When exactly does he open the bottle?
    Funny though ;)
  • Please fix the spelling of Coca-Cola. It's with a dash!

To me, this doesn't have much to do with Vice City. Because Vice City is Miami and the game was based off of Scarface...

It's more of a random GTA feel, and GTA has been around long since Vice City.

That ad was fun, effective and served all parties well. For Coca-Cola, they got a surefire hit on their hands. Not that anyone is ever going to stop drinking coke, ever, but this will be a good ad for them. For Rockstar, this panders to the critics without being condescending and offers some humorous, irony/sarcasm to their semi-loyal fanbase. I'm critical of mostly things, but I really enjoyed this ad for whatever that's worth.

This is cool. It's only hyping up the game more where some people want it to disapear.
  • could somebody upload it to youtube or something that can be seen worldwide?
  • AmberAle
That is cool although that is not what GTA is like at all. I wonder if they had to get rights to GTA or is it generic enough that they didn't have to.
