TopsPEEd Urinal Game

Remember the Urinal game designed by Marcel Neund??rfer that we blogged about previously? Well believe it or not there’s actually another iteration of the whole urinal games phenomenon, this time it’s a drive ‘n pee game called TopsPEEd by John van Terheijden. Clever title ain’t it? With a urinal as the input device you control the gears by peeing in the urinal. Again, much like Marcel’s game, TopsPEEd is obviously a dude’s only game. Sorry ladies. I tell you these urinal games have got to be the most organic interfaces I’ve ever seen. You could could argue that you’d need to drink a lot in order to win though – a full bladder equals triumph. When I was offered a job in the past as an Interface Designer at EA I could’ve used this idea as an example of true interfaces. That would’ve blown them away!
“The virtual car has four gears and each gear is controlled by a little seesaw in the urinal. The game starts when you start peeing on one of them. A monitor shows a dashboard with current speed and RPM and you can hear the engine sound. The virtual car keeps accelerating until you stop peeing. The only thing you have to do is switch gears at the right moment, and keep peeing of course.”
