Top-Ten Game Cakes

What better way to let your gamer partner, sibling, child, pet or…I don’t know, pen pal – that you love them by getting a game-themed cake catered just for that special occasion. We’ve worked hard to track down the top-ten game cakes out there and then compiled a list of the sweetest ones available. Of course we can’t sample these creations so this is just going by presentation alone. So, dig in!
#10. Coming in at 10 is this XBox 360 cake. I decided to stick it at 10 because they could’ve added more detail, smoothed out the icing and did a proper typeface treatment. I’ll give them a pat on the shoulder for getting the shape and icing colour a good go. It’s a nice try, but no cigar.

#9. Making its appearance at 9 is this Asteroids cake. When I myself think of an Asteroids cake I’d expect a little creativity, wouldn’t you? How about the triangular ship made out of chocolate sticks in a 3D triangle shape and the rocks are big chunks of carefully crafted pieces of cake on a 3D plane? In other words, “3D”. See…now we’re talking!
#8. At 8 we have the first of a few XBox cakes which seems to have been somewhat of a trend at one point. This isn’t the best because the XBox doesn’t look that fat and the controllers don’t look like boomerangs. They get high marks for detail but again, it just doesn’t cut it – so to speak. Heh. They even had “…permission from Microsoft “to make this cake.

#7. At lucky 7 we have this Gamecube cake and the reason why it’s not higher on the list is because it’s just too big. One can argue that it needs to be that size to accommodate a whole party – fine, be that as it may but it stays at #7. I will say that I like the detailing and the real controller is an added touch.

#6. Arriving at 6 is another XBox cake. This one came pretty close to competing with this XBox cake. I actually couldn’t decide which one was better. They’re both disproportionate (probably for baking reasons) but have the same amount of detail on them.

#5. This Nintendo Wii controller cake was probably the first ever made and it looks good but they cheated as the top is just a photo. Still, it looks nice and is going to sit in 5th position.

#4. Talk about “dedication”. Till Games Do Us Part! The first PS1 cake in the list needs no introduction. It didn’t get higher marks because it’s fricken huge but the detail is fabulous and they added the controller for effect. Looks like extended video game sessions won’t be breaking up this marriage anytime soon. Hey, this guy looks like my old boss.

#3. I probably would’ve been given heck if I didn’t include one of Rakka’s cakes. I chose her Intellivision cake because it’s unique and has some nice details. The cake is lemon with a lemon buttercream icing. the knobs and the fake woodgrain are gingerbread and the cord connecting the controller is licorice.

#2.You have to love this colourful Katamari cake. It’s near-perfect, almost made #1 and is evidently also owned by Rakka – what cake DIDN’T Rakka make? (Thanks for the correction). The top parts are cupcakes and the colours of the icing are a perfect balance. I suppose the only reason why it didn’t make it to first is just not enough detail. Perhaps by sticking a bunch of junk on it would’ve made a nice touch.

#1. I promise no more Xbox cakes, Ok just this last one because it takes the…cake. This awesome cake is the winner because everything is edible right down to the controller, disc and buttons. It has great detail and is proportionally accurate. There’s even a Birthday message right on the disc. If you don’t think this one wins, tell us why and which one is the best.
