Super Mario Bros. Watch Revisited

Long time Aeropause reader Matt of Press The Buttons has sent us news of one of his prized video game toys to which allows him to press some new buttons, so to speak. Matt has his hands, or rather his wrist on that LCD Mario watch that we previously wrote about, but it’s a bit dysfunctional. Matt tells us that this Mario watch only has 3 levels (probably because of the “memory” available at that time) to which level 2 is a bit iffy because you can’t control Mario in the natural left to right sort of way. The watch also tells time of course and is not recommended to be worn on a daily basis to avoid snickers and pointing of fingers.
If Nintendo were to make a Mario watch for the present day, I wonder what it would look like? What sort of technology could be used to play a better Mario game other then a screen of “off” objects and a screen of “on” objects as this is how LCD games worked in the past. Matt’s watch is from the early 1980′s but I did some searching and found a slightly older watch from 1991. Below is a Super Mario Bros. 3 watch and the idea is pretty much the same – save the Princess and Slay the dragon. The design is quite similar, the screen is just as big but the button configuration is different.

Thanks, Matt!
