Grad student Wim van Eck has gone and developed a real-life Pacman game only the ghosts are in cricket form! The crickets will control the ghosts (on screen) and Pacman himself is controlled via human through a tangible maze providing an opportunity for very unpredictable AI. Talk about the best AI you’ve seen for Pacman – this is it. At one point a cricket sheds its skin and the colour detection system that Wim created couldn’t detect what colour the now white cricket was, thus becoming a real ghost cricket. How ironic. I can just imagine playing this with that whistling sound crickets make instead of the typical sound effects from the original game. It’s kind’ve creepy if you ponder that. Now bring on Joust with real Ostriches!! That would get a bit ugly.
