Games Cost More In Canada

Submitted by on July 26, 2006 – 7:00 am6 Comments

canflag.jpgDavid Pettitt of the Game World Network has opened our eyes to the comparative cost of video games around the world, more specifically – the UK, Canada and the US. He’s concluded that PS3 and Wii games could cost up to $11.35 more in Canada than in the US. I tell you I don’t understand the logistics behind the pricing plan; is it to cover import/export or reseller costs? I went into a London Drugs here in Canada yesterday and saw Prey on the shelf. It was going for an astronomic $59.98!! that’s $68.39 after all our insane taxes we have here including the BST (inside Canadian joke) So let’s check out the numbers that David has done some research on:

Prey
$59.99 in the USA.
$69.99, in Canada which is equivalent to $61.34 USD.

Bestbuy
PS3 games
$59.99 US
$74.99 Cdn equivalent to $65.71 USD
Wii games
$49.99 US
$69.99 Cdn equivalent to $61.34

Perhaps we could trade games for prescription drugs.

Very interesting. I knew that DS games were expensive in Canada, but Wii games for $61.34…. D@mn!

  • McChicken

And you what’s even worst ? Games cost a lot more in France. Basically a 50$ (US) game should cost around 40

Au contraire, sir. Us Canucks actually save $23 CND on the 60GB PS3.

Where’s the bit in the article about the UK that you hint at?
