Colourful PSP Ads

Sony is at it again with their out-there ad campaigns. QJ has a photo of an ad for the white PSP which shows two woman of different ethnicity in artsy, suggestive poses. I don’t feel the ad is controversial myself, just well done. I think the ad is meant to be literal to compliment the different colours of the PSP. The same photos lead to the official Dutch PSP website, and while the white PSP has been out for a couple months now, the ad photos are new to us. While we’re at it, let’s take a look at this list of other controversial ads Sony has had in the past, shall we?:

There was the ad that was banned from Itallian newspapers for getting a little too close to religion.

Your Girlfriend’s White Bits has recently surfaced about, getting a lot of exposure too.

And finally the PSP Graffiti ads tagged by Sony themselves.

UPDATE: The images have been taken down by Sony from the Dutch PSP homepage and replaced with different ones. I guess they were taken down out of controversy – who knows?

I can’t wait to see what the PS3′s ads will look like. The way Sony’s been hyping it, I expect nothing less then a billboard at the Vatican that has the PS3 and the words “better then jesus” on it.

  • Bob

Haha. Or one of the famous religious figure statues in Isreal or somewhere, replaced with a PS3 and people worshipping it.

    Sony as the new Acclaim?

    I say yes.

Anyone remember Acclaim paying someone to name their baby after one of their games? Oh, and wasn’t there something about Acclaim engraving an ad onto a tombstone. Sony hasn’t gone that far, yet… but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

  • DSK UK

George, and look what happened to Acclaim!?!

Didn’t Sony have some really clever ads once upon a time? Or was that some other company?

  • AE

    That was “another” company.

I literally saw someone on the subway with one of the white PSPs. import, i guess. Very nice though, much preferable to the black slab, stylistically speaking.

These are not artistic or well done, they’re distasteful and a rather cliched theme anyway. If it’s going to be offensive it might as well be at least original! This is a great example of using controversy to sell items.

  • Ben

Hurray Sony! I like the ad, generates alot of controversy and talk about the psp

  • Raoul Duke

This is great. The first picture is clearly a white slave owner laying down the law to one of her properties. And the second one is a homeless crack addict negro viciously and brutally mugging a defenseless white woman.

I’m really amazed at how many people find this offensive.

Ben, you’re an asshole.. You’re right, but you’re an asshole. But quite frankly, these ads will create alot of talk about the PSP, however the Nintendo corporation is still laughing all the way to the bank with the DS.

The world has spoken, and they just “LOL’d” at Sony.
