Unfortunately, this code will not give you infinite lives in Geometry Wars…

The full repercussions of this aren’t clear, but Joystiq is reporting that there is an Xbox 360 HDD cheat code which will wipe the HDD’s cache. Apparently, this will nuke any software updates.

HEXUS.gaming reports that a cache clear code has been discovered for the Xbox 360 hard drive via the dashboard’s system blade. To perform the function, access ‘memory’ in the system blade, and then highlight the hard drive. Now press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X. The following message should appear: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"

Fascinating. So, I guess one application would be if you installed the Oblivion update and then decided you didn’t like the fixes for some reason. I dunno. This seems too much like the "load 3 games to make Halo 2 load textures properly" or "blow on the NES cartridge to improve connectvity." I have no doubt that these methods sometimes work, but I certainly have no desire to implode my 360 HDD in the name of erasing unwanted updates.
