New XBox 360 purchase and the tray won’t open

xbox360notray.jpgSo I went out today happily skipping down the street as I knew I was on my way to get an Xbox 360. I haven’t owned a console since the retro days. The last system I had was a PS2 many years ago. So it’s been a while. When I finally picked it up I was quite surprised at how heavy the darn thing was. This is of course the version with the HD and XBox live. I got quite a workout as I had to walk far to get it home.

I get this beast home, setup and I was having issues with connecting to XBox Live as I only have two IP’s for two computers. Finally I got that working by resetting my modem. I start downloading demos like Lost Planet, which is awesome, PGR, Geometry Wars and many more. These were all fun and I was enjoying myself. I ended up renting The Outfit which I didn’t really like too much. I haven’t gotten into the multiplayer aspect of it yet so maybe that’s where the fun resides.

Anyway upon attempting to eject the tray to put The Outfit in, it wouldn’t open! I hit eject a few times, no ejection. It turns out I have to touch the tray slightly just to get it to open. This is all while the 360 is in the vertical position mind you. I turned it on it’s side in the horizontal position and the tray opens just fine with no problem. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m not sure if I should bother taking it back since I prefer it horizontal anyway.

A minor setback, suffice to say. It’s only been one day, time will tell if it flashes red with overheating and smoke billowing out the sides.

Take that crap back. Who knows how much worse it will be after a few months of wear and tear, and when it’ll also be much harder to get an exchange.

Yeah I should, it’s so disapointing when you spend hundreds and it doesn’t fully work.

Yes! Do take it back! When we neglect to do this, when we first get things we pay the price in the end threefold! And sometimes we end up keeping them only to discover that what you got was a lemon and most likely the problems won’t end there!

The console games industry is over THIRTY YEARS OLD (closer to fifty years by some metrics). The PS2 is by no conceivable stretch of the imagination “retro”.

yeah, i wouldn’t take it back either so i don’t blame you. i’m sure these guys are right, but it’s such a pain in the ass once your all set up. that could be the lazy girl in me though. lol

good luck with your system though! hope nothing else breaks down on you….OH and my original xbox always gets stuck. i actually have to tap it lightly to get the tray back in. almost always. nothing else ever really went wrong, but…it is getting old.

I wasn’t affiliating the PS2 with retro systems, but when the PS2 first came out there were systems around that are no longer around today.
