New Sony patent to prove they still got it?

There was a new finding made of a Sony patent that some believe could be applied to modern or future gaming as a new means to give a more realistic feel to everyone’s gaming experiences. The patent covers an electrorheological fluid device and an electronic apparatus that apparently changes the shape, texture or hardness of the new medium with a sufficient amount of pressure or electrical impulse. This would allow the object to be rolled up like a piece of parchment but spring to life and certain hardness at a small pressure given by even a finger.

The technology could be used for cell phones, PDAs, remote controls, clocks and many other devices including possibly a new controller for gaming. It might seem like a rather odd thing for a video game controller but if you were playing a game and lets say you got shot, killed or something that effects your character in one way or another, the apparatus part of the controller could change textures, become soft or alter in some way depending on the effect portrayed.

Where this might seem like a far shot to some, I don’t think it’s that far off considering the new controller’s uprising recently. I mean, I never thought I would have to move my arms up and down to fly a plane or actually swing them to hit a ball in a game but that is now a reality; so honestly who knows what the future will hold for gaming, and maybe Sony is finally onto something original here.
