Kutaragi never ceases to amuse.

Via 1up, I see that Kutaragi spoke with PC Watch, which Next Gen happily translated for us. The whole “PS3 is not a game console” mantra we have heard before. Many times. However, hilarity ensues when Kutaragi explains why the PS3 is really a computer.

Kutaragi further implied that the PS3 may adapt over time, much like computers do now as hardware technology changes: “However, the PS3 is a computer,” Kutaragi said. “Lowering costs is important but more important is its capacity to evolve. I think the HDD will gain in capacity. If a new technology gets into mainstream PCs, the PS3 will have to adopt it as well. Maybe the Blu-ray drive will become writable. Well, maybe not at this point.”

I never would’ve thought that Sony would get so desparate as to have Kutaragi channeling Jon Lovitz. “Maybe Blu-Ray will be writable! Then we will MAGICALLY UPDATE the PS3! Yeah, that’s it. That’s the ticket.”

I mean does anyone really seriously think that Sony is going to fully support hardware upgrades of this caliber? PS2 hard drive? Yeah, they sure supported the heck out of that one…

So if he says its not a game console enough times we’ll believe him?

Or is the alternative better? Are we supposed to think it’s a media player for a format that is not widespread and unlikely to be widely adopted? Is that better than calling it a game console?

    He’s getting worse, not better.
